Methodology - Economic Activity Rate

The average economic activity rate for adults (15+) is 59.6% with a standard deviation of 11.2%. The lowest rate is 27.0% (Algeria) while the highest is 88.3% (United Republic of Tanzania).

Using the mean and standard deviation an assumed normal distribution has been calculated. The probability of a value equals the points, i.e. a probability of 33% equals 33 points. The activity rate has not been translated directly into points (i.e. 67% activity rate = 67 points), as it is merely impossible for a country to reach 100%. In the same way it is almost impossible to reach 0% (somebody will always work).
