Glossary - Literacy Rate Youth

The average literacy rate for people between 15 and 24 years is 86.9% with a standard deviation of 18.1%. The highest number is 100.0% (Cuba) while the lowest one is 24.2% (Mali).

This figure shows the ratio of literated 15-24 year olds out of the total population in that age group. A literate person is a person who can read and write with understanding a short and simple statement on their daily life. Unfortunately, this figure is not published by many countries.
