Glossary - Unemployment Rate

The average unemployment rate is 9.8% with a standard deviation of 7.3%. The lowest rate is 0.4% (Uzbekistan) while the highest one is 39.3% (Lesotho).

This rate is computed by dividing unemployed persons by the labour force (all employed and unemployed people above 15 years). Unemployed persons are person who currently have no work under the condition that they are available for work and are seeking for works. Therefore students or persons who can not work due to illnesses are not considered as unemployed.
