Romania, which joined the
European Union in 2007, has a
population of about 21.6 million inhabitants. Although the GDP per
capita is quite low, Romania is still among the top 50 economic powers
in the world. A problem of the Romanian economy is the low economic
activity rate, while the unemployment rate is not that high.
The life expectancy is not that high. This may be due to the lack of
appropriate sanitation facilities. Furthermore, the pollution in form of
GHG is quite high. The school life expectancy is above average and also
the literacy rate is quite good. The tertiary education enrolment is not
as good as the leading countries in that area.
