Ireland is a country located in the north-western part of Europe and is member of the European Union. With a population of about 4.2 million people and about 70,000 km˛ area, Ireland can be considered as a small country. Despite this, Ireland is an important economic power. It is ranked as the 50th largest economy in the world. In terms of GDP per capita, Ireland is one of the richest countries in the world. Furthermore, the unemployment rate is very low. Although the economic activity rate is quite low, Ireland's economy is in a good condition.

With a life expectancy of almost 78 years, Irish people live very long compared to the world average. One reason for that may be the low HIV rate. However, Ireland is one of the biggest pollutors in terms of GHG gases in the world. Although the people attending tertiary education institutions are not that many, but the average Irish citizens spend a long time in schools.
