The Czech Republic joined the
EU in 2004 and has about 10.2 million
inhabitants and an area of 79,000 km2. It can be considered as a
middle-sized country. Despite that, the size of the economy is quite big
and the GDP per capita is about world average. The same is true for the
economic activity and unemployment rate.
The life expectancy is quite long with about 75.4 years. This may also
be a result of the excellent low AIDS rate. On the other hand, the
greenhouse gas emissions are very high. A school life expectancy of 15
years is more than the world average, but on the other hand, the
tertiary education enrolment is not that high.
