Cyprus, since 2004 member of the
European Union, is a very small
country, both in terms of population and area. Therefore, the size of
their economy is not very big compared to other countries, however, the
average GDP is quite high. The economic activity and unemployment rate
is not bad either.
The life expectancy in Cyprus is very high and the drinking water and
sanitation conditions are excellent. A school life expectancy of 14
years is longer than the world average and also the literacy rate for
adults and youth is not bad. However, the tertiary education enrolment
rate is quite low.
